Would you pay £1800 just for a leg of ham? Because that’s how much the world’s most expensive ham costs, and it’s on sale in Selfridges in London this week. It comes from 50 specially selected animals and to prove its authenticity it has its own DNA certificate!
How much would it cost to buy all the legs of Ham that are on the park on Saturday?
Stephen McKeown is out, and it looks like it will be late fitness tests for Lovell and Maxwell.
Mr. McCall is on the trail of another loanee from the SPL but whether we will see him on Saturday is another matter.
A win is a must on Saturday so lets hope we have a good night down in the tavern after the game.

Raith Rovers v Partick Thistle
Starks Park, Kirkcaldy
Saturday 16th January 2009
Referee- Euan Norris
Attendance: 1950approx
by Tom Hogg
Thistle arrived in Kirkcaldy as the snow disappeared and at the end of ninety eminently forgettable minutes, the more than 700 fans who had made the journey were left wishing that the Arctic conditions had persisted for a wee bit longer.
Late illness call offs for Lovell, Adams (in what would have been his last appearance) and Maxwell left a depleted squad but the team still lined up as a 4-4-2 despite the inclusion of utility defender Greig Shields in the starting line up. Shields took up a post to the left of Rowson in midfield with the other new loanee Ryan Conroy slotting in at left back. Archibald moved to the centre and Liam Buchanan started alongside Donnelly up front.
Thistle started the brighter of the two but Rovers were first to threaten after only five minutes when a set piece from deep was flicked on towards Tade who headed wide. Shortly after Corcoran was put under pressure at the edge of his own box but the ball was smuggled away without any real threat arising. However by the twelfth minute Thistle were looking more in control and Donnelly was fouled near the edge of the box after he collected an incisive Rowson pass with his back to goal. As the anticipation rose in the away stand, Sid stepped up and blasted the ball high over the bar. Read More »

Ian McCall unexpectedly included Jamie Adams in the starting line-up. Kilmarnock
apparently changed their minds about the request for him not to be included. The rumour is, he’s off to Queen of the south meaning that it doesn’t matter to Kille if he is cup tied.

Last weeks pre-match report was translated into Spanish in honour of the “The King of Spain’s” departure from the Jags. Our intentions this week were to translate the pre-match report into “Dundonian”, but as this proved to be an impossible task it was back to the good old English.
Stephen McKeown and Jamie Adams are out, but if clearance comes through Greg Shields will make his debut at the back. Youngsters Ryan MacBeth and Ross McGeoch will be on the bench.
Dundee United may or may not have Pat Fenlon as their new manager on Saturday, as talks are still going on with his club Bohemians. If he is as good as the last manager that came over the Irish Sea to Scotland, then bring on our opponents in the next round.
Dusan Permis will make is debut in goal for United.

It’s Adios Amigo to The King of Spain at to-nights game against Greenock Morton. Gerry Britton has been a fantastic servant for the Jags and must be one of the favourites for the Hall of Fame next season. Let’s make it a great send-off for the man with not only a win, but playing Spanish type football doing it.
Ian McCall has a full squad to pick from and I am sure Liam will be given a chance to keep up his great scoring record against our visitors from the Tail of the Bank.
Morton may have Ian Russell up front and the rumour is that Alan Lithgow may be a Morton player soon.

PARTICK THISTLE 2 QUEEN OF THE SOUTH 2
Match Report-Saturday 26th December 2009
Referee- Steve McLean
Attendance: 2,766
by Partick the Dog (with assistance from Wee Honk)
Four dubious setpieces produced all the goals in what was an entertaining but finally frustrating festive fixture at frosty Firhill. The points were shared, but having fought back twice to equalise, the Doonhamers will have departed the happier to search for their sheep on the lonely mountain steep.

Research this week suggests people are getting more impatient. Lets hope the “Jags” are impatient from the off and rattle in a barrow load goals in the Queen of the South net so that we can relax and enjoy our Christmas cheer down in the Tavern, after the game.
The signing of Greg Shields has not yet materialized, so Jags should be on normal lines. Liam Buchanan will make an appearance at some point.
Queen of the South have Lilley and McKenna suspended and Craig, Tosh and Roy are out injured. David Wyness will make his last appearance before joining the police, but unfortunately David Weatherston is fit and ready to cause the Jags defence problems as he has done in previous games.

The biggest game of the season for Thistle, no doubt about that. Thistle made only one change, with substituting Stephen McKeown for Bryan Hodge.
