DUNDEE 4 PARTICK THISTLE 0
Match Report-Saturday 9th May 2009
by Partick the Dog (with assistance from Wee Honk)

Dundee University produced the students who formed Snow Patrol. Rain Patrol or even Wet Wet Wet would have been more fitting as the last game of Thistle’s season was played out to the backdrop of the greatest monsoon to hit the British Isles since the first friendly of Thistle’s season in Blyth. In conditions so extreme you would not even take your pet fish out for a walk, Thistle were drowned by a lucky strike and three clinical finishes. Yet if fortune and clinicality (???) had been on Thistle’s side this could have been a high-scoring draw and the defiant chants of “We’re going to win 5-4” which rang out from the away stand at Dens Park with ten minutes to go were not as irrational as the final scoreline might suggest.

Match Report - Partick Thistle 0 Airdrie United 1

Thistle’s lingering hopes of catching St Johnstone in the run in were dashed in a lack lustre display that said more about the lengthy queue outside the physio’s room in recent weeks, than some mid season form which hinted ever so slightly at the chance of outrageous over-achievement. The loss of emergency loan signing Lucas Akins meant that a reshuffle was needed in any case, but Chaplain and Donnelly both started despite being only partly fit and the long term problems of Buchanan, Archibald and Kinniburgh are well documented. Young Graeme Eaglesham was listed on the bench, alongside Paul Paton with Buchanan starting alongside Doolan up front in a 3-5-2. Read More »

In what was a glorious day of sunshine that filled Firhill. Another glorious thing, Gary Harkins was unavailable for selection due to suspension, with Stephen McKeown unavailable because of injury, this posed McCall a selection problem with regard to his midfield. Simon Story filled the vacant midfield slot with Maxwell continuing in defense. Liam Buchanan made a welcome return to take a place on the bench.

This was the game that both teams had to win and in a sense both lost. However the game itself turned out to be an entertaining enough affair with both sides working hard right to the final whistle in order to gain all three points. Manager McCall fielded the same team that had performed so well the previous Saturday and it wasn’t long before Thistle had their first effort on goal. Only minutes after the start Harkins took a free kick but fired in a poor shot that Doolan also failed to connect with in front of the goal. The Dundee defence which had to work hard to neuter the threat and get the ball away looked unsettled. Paton was next to test the Douglas with a strong, low shot from 20 yards out but this one was easily dealt with by the former old firm keeper. Read More »

It has always been a problem particular to Partick Thistle fans, if you believe in lazy stereotyping, that the conclusion to the football season inevitably coincides with the sharp end of the academic calendar. So it was that three years ago I found myself dancing on the pitch at Peterhead only 24 hours before my first exam. Three years on, not much has changed as once again my heart ruled my head and a dissertation in disarray was left to stew as I made another trip based, once again, far more on hope than expectation. The dream of having your own tropical island came true for a four-year old boy this week.He won a lottery giving him exclusive use of an idylic island with white
sand beaches and crystal clear water.
Now what would you do if you won the lottery?Buy an idylic island with white sand
beaches and crystal clear waters,or would you do the right thing and take over Partick Thistle!

The battle scarred Thistle squad head for East End Park with great hope rather than confidence. The last time the Jags won in the league at Dunfermline was over 26 years ago,and in 1959 they suffered one of their worst defeats in their history, losing 10-1 to a Pars team fighting off relegation, but hope springs eternal, and I am sure the team will give 100% and send the fans home to the tavern, with the
knowledge of another three points in our pockets in the drive for promotion.

Lets give the team another “show of colours” when they run out on Saturday in appreciation of their magnificent win “up the road” on Tuesday night and also to spur them on to a historic victory against the”Dunfie”

Dunfermline have Calum Woods suspended but Kevin Harper,Graham Bayne and Graeme Homes may return.

Match report: Ross County 0-2 Partick Thistle

Ross County v Partick Thistle
Irn-Bru Scottish First Division
Tuesday 10th March 2009 7.45pm
Attendance: 2,017
Referee William Collum
Without a reporter at the game we missed the chance to celebrate a great victory over our bogie team Ross County. This was always going to be a difficult match, but it seems that Ian McCall’s men were ready to make amends for the poor performance served up on Saturday. By all accounts this was an excellent performance from the Jags: two goals from Kris Doolan in a magic two minutes sealing the victory and three points for Thistle.

McCall had made changes to saturday’s side with Chaplain and Akins being given a start. Paton dropped to the bench, but McCall kept faith with goalkeeper Tuffey. The changes seemed to have the desired effect and the side obviously responded with such an excellent away win. Much concern over last night’s match revolved around the striking prowess of County’s ‘new’ signing Craig Brewster. Fortunately, although always a threat, the defence was up to the mark. Indeed a number of the best chances came to the Jags in the first half with both Harkins and Doolan providing the main threat.

Doolan showed himself to be a major threat to the home side and had the ball inside the County net just after the start of the second half, but this was ruled offside. Minutes later he again game close with the ball going wide. Only ten minutes later, in the 67th minute, his persistence paid off and after a cut back from Twaddle, he put the ball into the back of the net to put the Jags one up. Two minutes later he doubled our lead this time taking a pass from McKeown and puting it into the net.

Although other results went our way somewhat, the St. Johnstone one did not, so Thistle remain four points behind the leaders who still have a game in hand. However, there is still a chance that we can take this fight right to the end of the season. All we need is to maintain our drive forward and hope that the Saints slip up on two occasions. The promotion race is not over yet.

Match Report - Livingston 2 Partick Thistle 4

Livingston v Partick Thistle
Irn Bru Scottish Football League Division One
Saturday 28 February 2009
Almondvale
Reporter Tom Hogg
Attendance 2876

Referee S McLean

Thistle left Almondvale with all three points after a thoroughly entertaining ninety minutes packed with goals, honest graft, the usual smattering of misplaced passes and two moments of sublime genius. Add in the reappearance of Armand One, playing for the only club he’s ever wanted to play for, a bizarre pre match ritual involving buying tickets from a wee booth (where else would you have to do that?) and Signor Massone having one of his capos reading out an almost incoherent public statement (for whose benefit?) and you have a recipe for a great February afternoon that would otherwise be spent watching the egg chasers.
