Referee: George Salmond

Standing in a rather long queue waiting to get my ticket to get in, I overheard Lance being told there was a late change in the line up. This change turned up to be Bryan Hodge who had suspected conjunctivitis. McCall then turned to David Rowson - who was expected to be rested for this game due to a sore shoulder.

The day started pretty well actually, it was sunny, the drive to Dumfries was pleasant enough and we had a most enjoyable lunch in a cafe overlooking the river Nith (it was actually overlooking a car park next to the river but I’m trying to paint a picture here ok?).

Match report - Forfar vs Partick Thistle Alba Cup

Reporter Paul Murray
Referee: David Somers
Attendance: 532

In the lead up to last week’s Alan Archibald testimonial Chic Charnley said of Alan : ‘…he is one of those players that you don’t notice him when he’s in your team but when he’s not there you miss him.’ Well, as Alan, returning from injury, once again led out Thistle up at Forfar in a potentially very difficult Alba cup tie I hoped Chic’s slightly back handed choice of compliment would ring true and that Archie would have a quietly efficient evening marshalling the Thistle rearguard. PARTICK THISTLE 1 LIVERPOOL XI 1

Alan Archibald Testimonial

Match report-Tuesday 11 August 2009

by Partick the Dog (with assistance from Wee Honk)

On Saturday 5th April 1997, at East Fife’s old Bayview Stadium in front of less than 1000 fans, Murdo MacLeod unfolded his arms long enough to usher into the action a bullet-headed young defender to play his part in a 2-0 victory. Unlike other participants on that fateful day, such as “Big” Jim Slavin and Hreinn “Turbo” Hringsson, whose Thistle careers crashed and burned, Alan Archibald has over the past dozen years built himself into the archietexture of Partick Thistle Football Club.

Thistle’s first game at Firhill this season saw them take on Third division Berwick. McCall opted to go with an attacking 4-3-3 formation. Thistle started okay and was trying to bring new signing Mark Corcoran into the game to test Berwick on the left. The third division visitors were passing the ball well but did not really test thistle.

Airdrie United 0-1 Partick Thistle Alba Challenge Cup
Saturday 25 July 2009 3.00pm New Broomfield
Reporter Kieron Dempsey
Referee: Calum Murray
Attendance: 1,325

The Challenge Cup tournament is one that a lot of people feel is superfluous at best and a waste of time at worst in the Scottish Football season callender. Perhaps that is why only  1,325 turned out for a match which was a repeat of last season’s semi-final with Thistle putting last season’s cup winners out of the tournament in the first round. This time the match was held in Airdrie’s territory at New Broomfield - a stadium that provides a fine example of a tidy modern football arena. Clean, modern and, crucially, four sided and proportionate, the stadium has a capacity of 10,000. However, there was a distinct lack of atmosphere as the two sides faced each other with the Thistle support narrowly  outnumbering the home support. Read More »

Many Glaswegians  will packing their bags this Saturday to head out to distant shores for their  local annual holidays, while Jags fans will be looking out the scarves for the third time in as many days for our friendly with our local rivals the “Bully Wee”.

Mr. McCall will probably go with the same squad of players that have been involved in our last two friendlies as our young squad are heading down to compete in a two-day tournament involving hosts Beith, along with junior clubs Clydebank and Glencairn.

Clyde, at the time of writing have still to make a signing, so it is possible that the team will be made up of players that took part in the open trials that Clyde have held over the last few weeks.
