We will all head up to Firhill for the last game of the season this Saturday with the word IF on our lips. If Buchanan had been fit, if Archibald had been fit, if Steve Lovell, had had a pre-season, [just reading, he is the eighth top scorer of all time in the SPL] and if Paul Paton had a left foot! We would be attending a sell-out “Player of the Year” Dance in the evening as league champions. But it is not to be, so we will just have to  wait till next season for it to be “Thistle’s year”

After an entertaining but relatively quiet first half, the northern skies were transformed by a sub-glacial volcanic eruption of Eyjafjallajokull proportions. By the time the dust had settled on a manic second half, Thistle had come back from behind to win 2-1, a new goalkeeping legend had been born and Ian McCall had enjoyed a Nick Clegg-like bounce in his personal popularity ratings.

Jags fans could be celebrating down the Tavern win or lose on Saturday. A win for the home side will mean Jags fans seeing their first win since 23rd March and a loss could mean another two games down at the seaside next season.

Thistle go into the game with a few injury problems, Archibald and Buchanan are out and Robertson and Donnelly are doubtful. Martin Corrigan is fit and could make a return.

Danny McKay, a promising 19 year old on loan from Kilmarnock, will return to the Ayr United squad after a hamstring injury.

It was Ground-Dog Day with a vengeance for your reporter as for the fourth time in succession this season Thistle dominated the play, but could not score and allowed Dundee to sneak away with three points in their swag bag. Pardon?…….You’re breaking up……”sorry,I just can’t hear you. I must be going through a tunnel.”
According to a poll out this week saying you have no signal is Britain’s most popular lie.
Will it be a lie if we say it will be a big win for the Jags on Saturday and finish off Dundee’s hopes for promotion?

Apparently 1500 little white lies slip out of our lips each year!

Mr. McCall’s team selection will be a last minute one with a few youngsters making the bench and I am sure Jags fans will give a warm welcome to ex-Jags Gordon Chisholm and gorgeous Gary Harkins.
