Alba Challenge Cup Draw Thistle V Airdrie

The draw for the semi-final Alba Challenge Cup took place at 3pm this afternoon at Hampden Park with Thistle being drawn at home to Airdrie United. The date for the match has been st for the 12th of October - a Sunday. The other tie sees Morton take on Ross County at Dingwall. Hopefully Thistle will be able to progress through to our first national cup final for thirty seven years. Certainly the squad Iain McCall has put together has the capabilty to see off the challenge from Airdrie United whose predecessors he once managed. Many of you may recall that Airdrieonians ran us very close at that time with McCall’s men just missing out on the promotion that the great Lambino delivered for us. This time the magic is right with McCall and Thistle being on the same side and hopfully Iain will move nearer to delivering his first trophy for the Jags
Firhill Music Collective
Some of you may remember a wee bit of controversy a month or so ago between the club and two - now three - Jags fans who wanted to put on some pre match music events. After discussions the difficulties with the club have been ironed out and the Collective are now ready to get into action. The first event will be held at Maryhill Juniors Social Club on Saturday October 4th and will form part of the build up to the match against Dundee. Two bands will feature: the Primary School and The Echo Session and the gig will begin just after noon with the first set starting at 12.30. Read More »

The Jags head towards the Lions Den on Sunday for a Alba Challenge cup tie against top of the league Livingston. A win here will put the Jags in the Semi-Final, the furthest they have been in this cup. Indeed, we could say Thistle are visiting the Dragons Den instead of the Lions Den, as you would think they would have needed the cash of Theo Paphitis and Duncan Bannatyne put together to pay for the quality signings that Livingston have made this season. There can be no doubt that there has been a vast improvement in the atmosphere on matchdays. The responsibility for this lies with Associate Director and former Jags Trust Board Member Jim Alexander. CIS CUP DRAW
The draw for the Third Round of The Co-operative Insurance Cup saw Thistle being drawn against Rangers at Firhill. This tie will give us the opportunity to gain some revenge for our Scottish Cup replay 0-2 defeat at Firhill last season. With a crowd of 9,909 having attended that match the game should provide the club not only with an entertaining derby match but a healthy pay day also. Read More »
JAMIE DOLAN
Former player James Dolan died today of a heart attack. Born February 22, 1969 Dolan began his playing career at Motherwell in the late 1980s where he stayed for ten years before transferring to Dundee United which he helped to reach the League Cup final in his first season. He then went to a number of clubs, Dunfermline, Livingston and Forfar, before joining Thistle in 2001 where he played a key role in our First Division Championship win which secured our promotion to the Premier League. Jamie did not stay at Firfill for the following season choosing to retire instead. He played over 30 times for Thistle and scored two goals in his period with us.
Since giving up playing at senior level Jamie was actively involved in Junior Football and was presently the boss at Broxburn Athletic.
Jamie was only thirty-nine years old and his death has come as a shock to all in Scottish Football. Our sympathies go out to his family and friends.
